ALERT 6 April 2012 - Utah Medicaid Data Breach Information - What might be included?

Medical IDentity Theft  Data Breach grabbing your meidcal and private information

ALERT 24,000 claims affected, SSN’s, addresses, physicians names, much more announced yesterday.  Are you affected?

Incident was reported to public some time yesterday, Wednesday April 5.  They feel the data breach may have happened last Friday, March 30.  The two links below the last paragraph will talk about how to watch over your financial data.  They ARE NOT fully informing you.  Information here

All the more reason people need to watch their back and have COMPLETE restoration when identity theft happens.  There are many areas of id theft.  Again, this article says watch your FINANCIAL data, nothing about your medical.  Maybe someone will get treatment in your name, a job, collect your tax refund, buy a house,…

Highly recommend adding IDentity Theft Shield and Safeguard for Minors - because they are the only ones who offer COMPLETE RESTORATION and have been around decades longer than anyone else you hear about.  Did you know there are a few hundred programs out there - but they are all focused on financial IDTheft.  http://talktoday.us

Mr. barack hussein obama doesn’t care about the name of Small Business

Mr. barack hussein obama doesn’t care about the name of Small Business

Here in the United States, we could help our economy by allowing Small Business to grow, thereby employing more American citizens.  But noooooooo.   Socialist minded people don’t care for the success of others and they want big government, so THEY can take care of & control people.

From the Business Wire in the new year 2012:

Obama Extends Program that Reduces Opportunities for Small Business, According to the American Small Business League

Publication date: 1/3/2012 12:00:00 AM

The following is a statement by the American Small Business League:

President Obama has extended a 21-year-old defense program that allows large defense contractors to withhold subcontracting information from Read the rest of this entry »

Intrafamilial IDentity Theft

Children, the elderly and domestic violence survivors are particularly vulnerable.  Intrafamilial IDentity Theft is when someone in the family uses another family member’s good name.  This can be immediate family members, cousins, aunts/uncles, etc.  Sometimes it is a parent using the children’s info to get utilities turned on in their name.

Short blog, but true.  Solutions are at http://talktoday.us

Did Barack Obama commit IDentity Theft as a high schooler?

Children’s Identity Theft is a growing area of major concern.  Parents and the children are finding out that their children’s IDentity have been used.  Finding out too late.  Like when they turn 18, and apply for their first car loan, apartment rental, employment, college admissions and school loans…

In an article on-line “…possible fraudulent use of a Social Security number in Connecticut, while Obama was a high school student in Hawaii.”

Yes, IDentity Theft is more than just financial.  If and How Obama used someone’s SSN, I haven’t personally researched.  You can make a long list of what/where/when you are asked for your [or someone else’s?] SSN.  It doesn’t always relate to YOUR credit score or bank account.

Here is the story where I found the above comment:

Service Members Face New Threat: Identity Theft

So the story goes…

I have to tell you… … when I served in the U.S. Armed Forces, I remember carrying my military-issued green duffel bag through the airports, stuffed.  Making my social security number stenciled on the side of it - stand out.  My dog tags, social security number, on all of them.  Raised up that this number was an identifying number, not knowing the ‘original’ purpose of them, I was putting my SSN on/in everything… just in case it was Read the rest of this entry »

Identity Theft Victim Cleared In Fraud Case

Source: TheIndyChannel.com

Andrew Chastain was recovering from brain surgery in May 2009 when he said someone used his identity to try and get drugs from Martinsville pharmacies, 6News’ Joanna Massee reported.

Chastain said he first learned that he was wanted by police when he was pulled over for a traffic violation and arrested on a charge of felony prescription fraud.

One of Top 10 Scams & Rips-Offs in 2010: Identity Theft

With as much press as identity theft has had in recent years, you’d think it would be on the BBB’s top 10 list every year. Not so. Identity theft wasn’t in the top 10 last year.

There are any number of ways a person can become a victim of identity theft. Through low-tech theft, phishing emails, vishing phone calls, smishing text messages, or even through no fault of your own as the result of a corporate data breach, millions fall victim to identity theft every year.

$1 billion paid to dead people, senator reports

from the Washington Post story on October 29, 2010
[these two quotes]:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/oct/29/1-billion-paid-dead-people-senate-panel-finds/

“Washington paid for dead people’s prescriptions and wheelchairs, subsidized their farms, helped pay their rent, and even chipped in for their heating and air conditioning bills,” Mr. Coburn’s report said.

Mr. Coburn also said Congress is to blame for rules that required dead farmers to receive benefits — more than $1 billion, sent to nearly 173,000 deceased farmers over seven years. Of that, nearly a fifth of the money went to farmers who had been dead at least seven years.

—————

I can just about guarantee, with some research, that some of that is also going to IDentity Thieves and/or illegal immigrants that work/ed on those farms.

My Family and I personally affected by a Benefits Broker data breach which happened when I was an employee at J-U-B Engineers

July 12, 2010 Marsh and Mercer
Washington, District Of Columbia
BSF PORT At least 3,000
Marsh and Mercer’s Seabury and Smith, Inc. and Mercer Health and Benefits LLC operations were involved.  The list of known organizations with affected employees includes Idaho Power, Saint Luke’s health System and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. The location is listed as Seabury and Smith’s office. The insurance broker and benefits consulting firm reported the loss of a backup tape during transport.  The tape contained employee benefits information for companies that used Marsh and Mercer for consultation. Names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, account information and driver’s license numbers were on the tape.
Information Source:
Databreaches.net
records from this breach used in our total: 3,000

The above data was found at http://www.privacyrights.org/data-breach/newI and my family [including wife and 4 children] are personally affected by this breach.  It happened back in April 2010.  Happens to be that I was laid-off in May 2010 from J-U-B Engineers, who also was affected by this breach.  J-U-B Engineers was not listed on the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse website posting shown above.  Yet, I was not informed until early August 2010.I am just glad that I and my family were already enrolled for the past 5+ years with the world’s leading risk consulting company, who has been watching our family member’s good name and there to do complete restoration, should something happen.  We also have a second 800-lb gorilla available to us should legal issues arise.

Problem is that the thieves already are educated on holding the data for at least a year to give time to elapse for the FREE 1-yr coverage these companies offer because it happened.  And they are only offering the monitoring and restoration [at least it is with the better solution out there], but no Legal coverage, because the thieves don’t use our information just for financial gain.  What about the Character/Criminal, Medical, Driver’s License, Employment, and Children’s IDentity Theft areas?  Those will need access to an attorney.

In March 2010, the Utah state legislature passed SB251 which requires all employers with 15 or more employees to protect children from illegal alien driven, job-related identity theft by using a status verification system such as E-Verify.

SB251 enters into effect on July 1, 2010 which is too late to protect an 11 month old Utah child who is the victim of identity theft.
